Everything we do at Actors PLAYground comes back to these four core values.
COMMUNITY
Actors PLAYground will provide a nurturing, respectful, and safe space where all members feel comfortable and valued. In this environment, members are empowered to take risks, try new things, and fearlessly express themselves. When individuals feel empowered, they are inspired to share their powers and use them for the betterment of the community, within the theater, and beyond.
GROWTH
The true magic of theater is seen in the growth of young actors both on the stage or off. Theater teaches life skills that take young people beyond the stage—public speaking, personal connection, self-esteem, self-expression, problem-solving, creative inspiration, and more. The opportunities to grow and learn never end.
CONFIDENCE
Confidence means feeling sure of yourself and your abilities—not in an arrogant way, but in a realistic, secure way. Theater allows a child to demonstrate self-expression from their heart. It gives them a voice and teaches them that their thoughts and feelings are important. Every day, we see young actors—many very shy—beam with pride after experiencing the thrill of a live performance. This is the true magic of theater.
PLAY
George Bernard Shaw once said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.” In a world where technology is replacing personal connections, imaginative play happens less and less. Adults and kids alike need healthy playtime! In the theater, we encourage imaginative play to create characters, tell stories, and perform plays. All this “playing” results in a whole lot of fun!
